Happy Birthday Grandma

Yesterday was my Grandmother Henrietta's 70th birthday. I was able to catch her at home and talk to her for a little bit and I immediately thought back to the summer and how you all deserve to hear this story. Now I warn you it may not be as funny to you because you don't know her or our relationship but I'll try to do my best to fill you in really quick.

She is my maternal grandmother and is the biggest OG in my family. For those of you that know Greg Boone, that last sentence is saying a lot. An OG is an Original Gangster for all of the slow people out there, and although I grew up (until age 14) in a pretty rough neighborhood, I'd be lying if I said I came from "the streets." My grandmother however, is "hood." She's not your traditional Big Momma, cooking Sunday dinners, going to church Grandma. She's the smoking Newports, playing Bingo, watching Judge Joe Brown Grandma. That being said, she has eight grandkids and stays pretty current with what is going on. Doesn't really understand the game but is a big basketball fan (my cousin, brother and I play basketball). Not a great dancer but murders the "Electric Slide" (two of my cousins dance) and can't rap but stays up to date on what the radio is playing.

So I get home last summer, go visit her and we're driving in the car to the mall. Yeah I go to the mall with my grandma. While driving, Jamie Foxx's Blame It comes on. The following conversation ensues

Grandma: Hey this is my song!!
Me: Grandma, what do you know about Jamie Foxx?
Grandma: He's mad at me
Me: Huh? What are you talking about?

(whoops...forgot to tell you that we call her Grandma Henny. Grandma Henrietta doesn't have the same ring to it)

Grandma: Watch, he says my name, blames everything on me.
Me: Huh?
Jamie Foxx: Blame It On the Vodka Blame It On (the) Henny
Grandma: See, he said Blame It On Henny, but what's he blaming on me?
Me: (immediately pulled the car over because I couldn't stop laughing)

Like I said, it may have been one of those "you had to be there moments" but that's my girl and I love her...hope she took it easy on that vodka last night though...blame it on the al al al al al al alcohol....

PS 14 minutes ago  was the first time I ever saw this video...how about that cast?
